Have you tried vasilopita? The Ideoli team enjoys Greek New Year’s bread
At Ideoli, we’re always up for trying new things…especially when it comes to food! Vasilopita (pronounced vah-see-LO-pee-tah) is a Greek New Year’s Bread that is a sweet yeasted egg bread scented with orange.
The bread is traditionally served on New Year’s Day to celebrate the life of Saint Basil.
The cool thing about this bread is that after baking the bread, a coin is hidden inside and whoever gets it has good luck for the rest of the year! Of course, the Ideoli team enjoyed the delicious bread and one lucky person received a beautiful glass eye for finding the coin.
Treat yourself to some Vasilopita. Add some Argentinian dulce de leche on top too, like we did, and enjoy!
